Karasu sits on the Black Sea coast of Sakarya Province in northwestern Turkey. The town is shaped by its shore, which runs as a long, almost straight line of sand. From above, the built area lies in a band parallel to the beach, with holiday housing along the front and older town streets and farmland spreading inland behind it.
The district is known for its beaches, which make it a popular summer destination for people from Istanbul and nearby cities. The Sakarya River, one of Turkey's larger rivers, reaches the sea within the district, and the flat coastal plain around the town is used for agriculture, with wetlands and forest in places.
