Ridge-top roads
Main routes in the region tend to run along ridges rather than valley floors, so the road network on the map traces the shape of the hills in long, gently curving lines.

La mappa
Karusi Map Poster & Print
Karusi, often also spelled Karuzi, lies in the hills of central-eastern Burundi, northeast of Gitega. The country is sometimes called the land of a thousand hills, and the map around Karusi shows why: roads trace the tops of ridges, homes spread along their crests, and the valley floors below are left largely to fields and streams.
The town has long served as an administrative centre for the surrounding area, and its street network is modest, with a small core where the main roads meet and quieter tracks branching toward outlying hills. Much of the population in the region lives in dispersed homesteads rather than dense towns, so the built-up area gives way to farmland quickly in every direction.
On a Karusi map poster, the shape of the land is expressed mostly through its roads. Instead of a tight grid, you see lines that bend and fork to follow the terrain, giving the design an organic, almost hand-drawn quality. It is a map that speaks to the rural character of Burundi's interior and the way people have settled across its hills.

Compact town centre
A small central area where the main roads converge holds most of the town's administrative and commercial life, forming the densest part of the poster.
Dispersed settlement
Beyond the centre, homesteads and small clusters of buildings spread across the hills, so the map fades gradually from town into a scattered rural pattern.

Perché Karusi
Una mappa che ha un significato
A map of Karusi is a personal object, for people from the area, for families living abroad, or for those who have worked in the region. It shows a place that rarely appears on printed maps, and gives it the same careful treatment as any capital city.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, and the design comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Start with the free 900 px watermarked preview, then choose the $9 HD files or a printed poster shipped from partners in 30+ countries.
