Radiating roads
A handful of main roads leave the town in different directions across the plateau, giving the map a simple, star-like structure around a modest centre.

La mappa
Kawambwa Map Poster & Print
Kawambwa is a district town in Luapula Province, in the far north of Zambia, set on high ground east of the Luapula River valley. On a map, the town is a small, loose network of streets around a few main roads that lead out across the plateau. Beyond it, the land opens into farmland, woodland and the clearly bounded shapes of cultivated estates.
The area is best known for tea. Kawambwa is one of the few places in Zambia where tea is grown on an estate scale, thanks to the higher rainfall of this part of the plateau. Nearby, Ntumbachushi Falls draws visitors to a series of cascades in the surrounding bush, one of several waterfalls that make Luapula Province a popular destination for travellers.
A Kawambwa map poster is spare and open, with more land than street. The town's centre forms a clear focus, and the roads that radiate from it read like lines across a wide field. It is a quiet, unusual subject for a wall, and it will mean a great deal to anyone who knows the town.

Estate country
Cultivated land around the town, including the tea-growing area it is known for, shows up as broader, regular blocks among the more irregular natural ground.
Open plateau
Much of the frame is open country with scattered tracks and streams, which gives the poster generous white space and a calm, uncluttered look.

Perché Kawambwa
Una mappa che ha un significato
Kawambwa is home to many families across Luapula and beyond, and it is a place that teachers, health workers and volunteers often remember fondly. A map of its streets is a personal memento of a town that rarely appears on anyone's wall.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a school name or the years you spent there. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to suit the room it will hang in.
