La mappa
Kilindoni Map Poster & Print
Kilindoni is the principal town and port of Mafia Island, which lies in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania, south of Zanzibar and opposite the Rufiji River delta. The town sits on the island's western shore, facing the mainland, and is the main arrival point both for boats and for the airstrip that links the island with Dar es Salaam.
On a map the settlement is loose and low, with sandy roads branching from the waterfront into a landscape of coconut palms and small farms. There is no dense grid here; streets follow the shore and the routes that run across the island toward its eastern coast, where the lodges and the marine park are found.
Mafia Island Marine Park protects reefs, mangroves and seagrass beds around the island, and the waters off Kilindoni are known for whale sharks, which gather here seasonally. A Kilindoni map poster pairs the modest town plan with a long stretch of coastline, giving generous space to the sea that defines everyday life on the island.

Island airstrip
A straight runway sits close to the town, one of the few truly geometric features in an otherwise soft and irregular street pattern.
Cross-island roads
Roads leave Kilindoni heading east and south across the island, linking the port with scattered villages, farmland and the opposite coast.

Perché Kilindoni
Una mappa che ha un significato
For divers, marine researchers, volunteers and travellers who spent time on Mafia, the map of Kilindoni holds the first and last memory of the island: the landing, the road inland, the view back across the water toward the mainland.
The poster can carry your own title, a subtitle with the dates of your stay, and custom coordinates. Pick from five styles, including Sand and Blueprint, and order a matte print with an optional wooden frame or download the HD files instead.
