Kimitsu Map Poster
Kimitsu lies on the eastern shore of Tokyo Bay in Chiba Prefecture, on the Boso Peninsula. Its map falls into two very different parts. Along the coast, a large area of reclaimed land holds one of Japan's major steelworks, drawn as broad rectangular blocks and straight quays reaching into the bay. Inland, the city rises into wooded hills.
Between the two, the Obitsu River runs down from the interior toward the bay. The main residential areas cluster near the coast and along the rail line around Kimitsu Station. Further inland the population thins, and roads wind through valleys past reservoirs, farmland and forest, which together make up much of the city's large area.

The city is also a short drive from the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line landing at neighbouring Kisarazu, a reminder of how close the capital is.
