La mappa
Kimje Map Poster & Print
Kimje, also spelled Gimje, is in Jeollabuk-do in South Korea. It is on the Honam plain, the country's largest area of flat farmland. From above, the land around the city is an almost unbroken grid of rice paddies, cut by straight irrigation channels and farm roads, and the town centre forms a compact cluster in the middle of it.
That flatness is so unusual in mountainous Korea that Kimje is known as a place where you can see a land horizon, and the city celebrates it with the Gimje Horizon Festival. The area's farming history goes back a very long way. Byeokgolje, an ancient reservoir embankment from the Baekje period, is among the oldest irrigation works in the country.
To the east, the ground rises toward Moaksan, where the Buddhist temple Geumsansa stands among the trees. A Kimje map poster captures the transition from the precise field geometry of the plain to the looser lines of the town and the first contours of the hills, and that makes for a layered, orderly composition.

Byeokgolje embankment
The remains of an ancient Baekje-period reservoir dike near the city are a reminder that people have been shaping this water system for more than a thousand years.
Horizon line
The land is flat enough to show an unbroken horizon. It is rare in Korea and gives the map a wide, calm, open feel.

Perché Kimje
Una mappa che ha un significato
For people from Jeollabuk-do, Kimje stands for harvest, family land and an unusually open sky. The map turns that farmland geometry into something clean enough for a modern apartment wall.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are all editable, so you can use the Korean name, a family name or a date. Choose one of five styles. HD files are $9 in six sizes, and printed posters come on matte paper with an optional frame.
