La mappa
Köniz Map Poster & Print
Köniz borders the city of Bern to the south and west and is one of the most populous municipalities in the canton. Rather than a single town, it is a collection of districts and villages. They range from dense suburbs such as Wabern and Liebefeld next to Bern to farming hamlets on rolling land further out. From above, the built-up areas thin gradually into fields and woods.
The municipality includes the Gurten, Bern's local hill, which is reached by a funicular from Wabern and known for its summer music festival. In the old centre stands Köniz Castle, a former commandery of the Teutonic Order, next to a medieval church. The Aare forms part of the eastern boundary and gives the map a winding river edge.
A Köniz map poster shows the shift from city to countryside with unusual clarity. Close-knit suburban streets in the north give way to scattered settlements, the wooded mass of the Gurten and a network of rural roads. It is a map for people who know the area as a series of distinct places rather than one continuous town.

Suburban north
Districts such as Liebefeld and Wabern merge with Bern, so the northern part of the map is dense with streets and tram lines leading into the city.
Castle and old village
The historic core around Köniz Castle and its medieval church forms a small, compact cluster of older streets. It stands apart from the housing estates that grew up around it.

Perché Köniz
Una mappa che ha un significato
Many people from the Bern area grew up in Köniz, settled there with a family or climbed the Gurten on summer weekends. A map of its districts and hills is a thoughtful way to mark a home just beyond the city.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a district name or the date you moved in. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Download the $9 HD files in six sizes or order a framed print.
