La mappa
Kurgan Map Poster & Print
Kurgan is on the Tobol River where the Urals give way to the West Siberian Plain, and the land around it is almost completely flat. The centre follows a regular grid of long, straight streets. Beyond it, the river loops across its floodplain and leaves oxbow lakes and backwaters that give the northern side of the map a looser, watery pattern.
The city began in 1679 as a fortified settlement called Tsaryovo Gorodishche, named after an ancient burial mound nearby, which is also where the word kurgan comes from. Its later growth followed the Trans-Siberian Railway, which runs through the city and drew industry to its sides. Rail yards, factory districts and apartment blocks now surround the older street grid.
A Kurgan map poster shows a city laid out on open steppe, where geometry sets the mood. The rectangular centre, the curving river and the thin railway line work together as a clean, balanced composition. In black and white, the scattered lakes around the edges look almost like ink blots, softening the straight lines of the plan.

Perché Kurgan
Una mappa che ha un significato
Kurgan is a city people often leave for larger ones, so a map of it tends to carry a lot of memory. Adding a family surname, a school graduation year or the coordinates of a childhood flat turns an ordinary grid into something personal.
It comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir makes the river and lakes especially striking. The $9 HD download includes 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF files in six sizes, with no watermark, or you can order a matte printed poster with an optional frame.
