Lake Sevan Map Poster
Lake Sevan lies high in the mountains of Armenia, at around 1,900 metres, and it is the largest lake in the country and in the Caucasus region. On a map it divides into two unequal parts: a smaller basin to the northwest, known as Minor Sevan, and a wider, deeper-looking expanse to the southeast called Major Sevan.
Where the two basins meet, the Sevan peninsula reaches out from the western shore. It was once an island, but a fall in the water level during the Soviet period joined it to the land. The Sevanavank monastery stands on its high ground, a small but well-known landmark.
The surrounding shore is open and lightly built, with towns, beaches and roads spaced along a lake ringed by ridges. A Lake Sevan map poster keeps this simplicity, giving the water room and letting the peninsula and the narrowing between basins carry the composition.
