Leduc lies on the flat prairie just south of Edmonton, in central Alberta. Its map is defined by the survey grid that shapes the whole region: straight roads at regular intervals, square blocks and long, unbroken lines. The older centre follows this grid closely, while newer neighbourhoods fill the spaces between the section roads with curving streets and crescents.
Leduc gave its name to one of the defining moments in Canadian economic history. In 1947 the Leduc No. 1 well struck oil nearby, beginning Alberta's modern oil boom. Today the city sits beside Edmonton International Airport and along the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, closely tied to the provincial capital to the north.

The lake stretches along the eastern side of the city, bordered by parks and trails, and adds an irregular shape to the otherwise geometric street pattern.
