The Red River dyke
The flood embankment runs along the ward in a long arc, drawing a firm boundary between the city's street grid and the broad, open ground beside the river.

La mappa
Lĩnh Nam Map Poster & Print
Lĩnh Nam lies on the south-eastern edge of Hanoi, in Hoàng Mai district, where the city runs out toward the Red River. From above, the most important line is the dyke. It follows the river in a long, steady curve and separates the dense urban blocks on one side from the open floodplain on the other.
Inland from the dyke, the map fills with the mixed texture typical of Hanoi's outer wards. Older village lanes twist between houses, and straighter roads from newer development cut across them. Small ponds and lakes break up the built fabric, and in black and white they appear as clean pale shapes set against a close mesh of alleys.
A Lĩnh Nam map poster shows a stage of the city that is still changing, where former farmland and village cores are being drawn into the capital. The river keeps the composition steady. Its wide band crosses one side of the frame, and all the streets seem to line up against it.

Ponds among the lanes
Scattered bodies of still water sit inside the built-up area, left over from the low wetland terrain that once covered much of southern Hanoi.
Village cores
Clusters of narrow, irregular lanes mark older settlements that have been absorbed into the city. They contrast sharply with the straighter roads of recent development.

Perché Lĩnh Nam
Una mappa che ha un significato
For someone who grew up here or has family nearby, this map records a part of Hanoi that looks different almost every year. The dyke, the lanes and the ponds become a reference point for that change, printed in plain black lines.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps a family name or a moving date. Then choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
