Japurá River
The broad Japurá runs past the town and dominates the map. Its wide channel is by far the heaviest shape on the print.

La mappa
Maraã Map Poster & Print
Maraã is a small town in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, on the Japurá River in the western Amazon basin. From above, it is a short grid of streets along the riverbank, with the forest pressing in behind. Like many Amazon towns, it faces the water, because boats are the main way to arrive and leave.
The Japurá and its side channels, lakes and seasonally flooded forests make the surrounding map far more interesting than the small town itself. On a print, the river is a wide, strong shape. Around it is a maze of curving waterways that change with the seasons, while the built area stays tightly clustered on dry ground.
A Maraã map poster shows the scale of the Amazon: a small community next to an enormous river system. It will mean most to people from the town or the region, and to those who have travelled the rivers of western Amazonas.

Riverfront grid
The town's few streets are laid out close to the riverbank, forming a compact, simple grid that faces the water.
Channels and lakes
Side channels, oxbow lakes and flooded forest areas curl around the main river. They form an intricate pattern of curved shapes across the rest of the map.

Perché Maraã
Una mappa che ha un significato
The map is a striking picture of how people live at the scale of the Amazon. It suits people from the region, river travellers and anyone who likes maps where water takes centre stage.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a date or a name. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint suits the watery landscape well.
