Maran is a district in the Malaysian state of Pahang, lying in the interior between Kuantan and Temerloh. On a map the district is mostly open land, with built-up areas appearing as small clusters along the main roads rather than as a single large city. The town of Maran itself sits beside the route that links the east coast with the centre of the peninsula.
Much of the surrounding land has been developed for oil palm and rubber, including planned settlements from land development schemes, whose regular village layouts stand out against the more irregular forest edges. Rivers and streams thread through the district, and the broad Pahang River passes through it on its way to the South China Sea.
