Railroad downtown
The historic centre sits along the rail line in a short, regular grid. It is the oldest and most compact part of the town's street pattern.

La mappa
Matthews Map Poster & Print
Matthews lies in the southeast of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, on the edge of the Charlotte metropolitan area. The town began as a stop on the railroad, and the old downtown still lines up along the tracks. It is a short grid of streets with low commercial buildings, in sharp contrast to what surrounds it.
Beyond that small centre, the map changes character. Postwar and modern subdivisions spread outward in loops, crescents and cul-de-sacs, joined by a few main arterial roads. Creeks wind through the town, and several are followed by wooded greenway corridors that show up as irregular green lines between the neighbourhoods. The Interstate 485 beltway around Charlotte passes nearby and marks a firm edge.
A Matthews map poster shows the layers of an American suburb in one image. There is a straight railroad-era core, looping residential streets and the ribbons of creeks that run through it all. It is a familiar pattern, but here it is specific enough that anyone who lives in Matthews will pick out their own street within seconds.

Cul-de-sac suburbs
Residential neighbourhoods spread in curving streets and dead ends. They create the dense, organic texture that fills most of the poster.
Creek greenways
Wooded corridors follow the local creeks between subdivisions. They draw soft, winding lines through the built-up area.

Perché Matthews
Una mappa che ha un significato
A map of Matthews makes sense for anyone who bought a first house there, raised children there or grew up walking to the downtown festivals. It turns an everyday suburb into something personal and considered.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can all be edited, for example with a street name and move-in date. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The poster is available as a digital file or printed and framed.
