Harbour basins
Quays, docks and reclaimed land line the waterfront and form rectangular shapes that read clearly in a black-and-white print. They anchor one side of the map.

La mappa
Minato Map Poster & Print
Minato is an area of Wakayama city on the Kii Peninsula, close to where the Kinokawa River flows into the Kii Channel. As the name suggests, it is tied to the harbour. On a map the district borders port basins, quays and reclaimed land, while the city's dense residential and commercial streets spread inland toward the centre.
Wakayama grew as a castle town, and Wakayama Castle on its hill still sits at the heart of the city a short distance away. Water shapes the wider urban area: the broad Kinokawa, the open sea to the west and smaller rivers and channels that once served the port and the castle town.
A Minato map poster combines port geometry with the fine grain of the city. Straight piers and docks give strong edges along the waterfront, and the river mouth opens a wide pale area. The streets behind form the close, intricate pattern of a Japanese city. The coastline gives the composition a firm boundary on one side.

Kinokawa river mouth
The Kinokawa widens as it reaches the sea near the district. It creates a broad open area that divides the urban fabric on either bank.
Toward the castle
Inland, the street pattern tightens around Wakayama's historic centre, where the castle hill forms a green island in the middle of the city.
