Planned street grid
Built as a single project, the town has regular blocks and parallel streets that read clearly on a map, with open courtyards between residential buildings.

La mappa
Mirnyy Map Poster & Print
Mirnyy is a closed town in Arkhangelsk Oblast in northern Russia. It was founded in the late 1950s to serve the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, one of the country's main launch sites, and it still exists mainly because of that role. The town was planned from scratch, so its layout has an order you rarely find in older Russian settlements.
Seen from above, Mirnyy is a tidy rectangle of streets and courtyard blocks inside a very large forest. Several lakes sit right beside it, and their rounded shorelines contrast with the straight residential streets. Beyond the town, roads and rail lines run out through the taiga towards the launch complexes, often dead straight for long stretches, marking a landscape shaped by engineering.
A Mirnyy map poster reduces all of this to a few strong elements: the grid, the water and the long access lines. For people who grew up in the town or served at the cosmodrome, that combination is instantly recognisable. For everyone else it is a striking study of a planned settlement at the edge of the northern forest.

Lakes at the edge
Lakes lie close to the built-up area, and their irregular shorelines soften the geometric town plan when drawn in black and white.
Lines into the taiga
Roads and railways run out through the forest to the cosmodrome's facilities, forming long, straight strokes across an otherwise unmarked green expanse.

Perché Mirnyy
Una mappa che ha un significato
A map of Mirnyy often belongs to someone with a direct connection to it, such as a childhood home or a posting at Plesetsk. Its clear plan and surrounding lakes make it a distinctive piece even for people who have never been.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the years you lived there, and pick one of five styles. Blueprint suits the town's engineering origins, and Classic black & white, Noir, Paper and Sand offer calmer alternatives.
