La mappa
Mlangali lies in the Ludewa district of the Njombe region in the southern highlands of Tanzania. The land here is high, rolling and green for much of the year. From above, Mlangali is a loose settlement rather than a dense town, with houses, fields and small plots strung along roads and paths that follow the shape of the hills.
The southern highlands are known for their cooler climate and farming, and the Ludewa area lies between the Njombe plateau and the steep slopes that fall toward Lake Nyasa. Settlements like Mlangali serve the surrounding farming communities with markets, schools and services, connected by roads that curve with the terrain.
A Mlangali map poster shows a place shaped by its ground: roads that bend around slopes, clusters of houses on higher land, and open fields between them. The pattern is organic and irregular, very different from a planned grid, and it gives the print a gentle, flowing texture. It is a personal piece for anyone with roots in the southern highlands.
