La mappa

Mokameh Map Poster & Print

Mokameh, also written Mokama, is a town in Patna district, Bihar, on the south bank of the Ganges. The river is the dominant feature of its map: wide, slow and braided with sandbanks, it runs along the northern edge of the town. Streets, the railway and the main road follow the bank in long parallel lines.

Mokameh is known for Rajendra Setu, a combined road and rail bridge across the Ganges opened in 1959, which was the first bridge across the river in Bihar. On a map its straight line crossing the water is the clearest built feature. South of the town lie the low-lying Mokama Taal wetlands, farmed for pulses after the waters recede.

A Mokameh map poster shows the town stretched between the river and the taal, with the bridge reaching north. It is a strong composition, and a meaningful one for families from the area now living in Patna, Delhi or abroad.
