Lake Imandra
One of the largest lakes on the Kola Peninsula stretches beside the town, and its irregular shoreline and bays fill much of the map.

La mappa
Monchegorsk Map Poster & Print
Monchegorsk lies on the Kola Peninsula, well north of the Arctic Circle, on the shore of Lake Imandra and surrounded by smaller lakes and low tundra mountains. The town was founded in the 1930s alongside a nickel and copper plant. Its map combines a carefully planned centre with a landscape that, in many directions, is more water than land.
The name comes from the Sami word for beautiful, and the setting explains why. A broad main avenue forms the spine of the centre, lined with Stalin-era and later apartment blocks. Beyond the residential districts lie the smelter complex and the hills of the Monchetundra, and the Lapland Nature Reserve is not far to the west.
A Monchegorsk map poster shows a northern town in its full setting: the ordered blocks of the centre, the industrial zone, the scattered lakes and the uneven shoreline of Imandra. In black and white, the water shapes become bold and graphic, and the town reads as a small island of streets in a vast landscape.

Planned centre
A broad main avenue anchors the town's layout, with apartment blocks arranged in regular groups around it, a clear example of Soviet urban planning.
Lakes and tundra
Small lakes surround the town on almost every side, scattered across the tundra hills like fragments and giving the poster an unusual, open texture.
