Plateau grid
The centre is laid out as a regular grid of blocks on a raised terrace, giving the poster a clear, orderly middle framed by the land falling away around it.

La mappa
Moyobamba Map Poster & Print
Moyobamba, capital of the San Martín region, was founded by the Spanish in 1540 and is among the oldest towns of the Peruvian Amazon. It sits in the selva alta, the forested foothills where the Andes descend toward the lowlands, and it is widely known as the city of orchids for the many species growing in the surrounding forest.
The town's shape comes from its site. The centre occupies a raised terrace above the Mayo river, and its grid of streets stops abruptly where the ground falls away into ravines and the river valley. On a map that edge is unmistakable: a regular urban block with irregular, steep boundaries and the curving Mayo winding below.
A Moyobamba map poster suits people from San Martín, travellers who have come for the orchids and hot springs, and anyone who likes a city whose plan is set so clearly by its landscape. The disciplined grid and the wild, broken edges make a composition that feels orderly and alive at the same time.

Ravine edges
Where the plateau ends, streets stop at steep slopes and ravines. These abrupt edges give the town an unusual outline that stands out in black and white.
Mayo river
Below the town the Mayo winds through its valley in wide bends, a soft curving line that frames the grid and hints at the forested lowlands beyond.

Perché Moyobamba
Una mappa che ha un significato
Moyobamba's outline is unlike that of most cities, and it makes a map that people notice even without knowing the place. For those who do know it, the plateau edges and river bends bring back walks to the viewpoints and the green valley below.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, adding a date if you like, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand works especially well with the warm, forested setting. Files cost $9, or order a framed print.
