Mulakumūd is in Kanyakumari district, at the far southern tip of Tamil Nadu, in the green strip of land between the Western Ghats and the sea. Settlements here tend to run into each other. From above, the town has no hard edge; its lanes wind through a continuous mix of houses, coconut groves, paddy fields and ponds.
The street pattern is organic, shaped by old footpaths, field boundaries and the gentle rise and fall of the land. Main roads link it to neighbouring towns across the district, and small irrigation tanks and channels appear as scattered water shapes among the lanes.
