Narón borders Ferrol in northwestern Galicia and shares its ria, the long sheltered inlet that has made this corner of the coast a naval and shipbuilding centre. Its map is typically Galician. There is no single dense old town. Instead, the built areas string along main roads, with villages and farm lanes scattered across green hills.
The more urban part lies next to Ferrol, where blocks of flats and commercial streets run seamlessly from one municipality into the other. Farther out, the pattern changes to small clusters of houses in their parishes, joined by winding roads that follow the terrain. River valleys cut down toward the ria and the coast.
