Nefta Map Poster
Nefta is an oasis town in the Tozeur Governorate of southwestern Tunisia, close to the Algerian border and on the edge of the Chott el Djerid, a vast salt flat. It is organised around its palm grove and in particular around the Corbeille, a deep hollow where springs once fed the oasis.
Nefta is known as a centre of Sufism in Tunisia, with many zawiyas and mosques in its old quarters. Its traditional houses are built of pale brick laid in decorative patterns, a style shared with nearby Tozeur, and the old lanes wind closely around the edges of the basin.
A Nefta map poster shows an unusual shape: dense quarters curving around the rim of the Corbeille, the palm grove spreading out beyond, and roads crossing the desert toward Tozeur and the border. Few towns show so clearly how a water source determines the whole plan.
