La mappa
New Hanover Island Map Poster & Print
New Hanover, also known as Lavongai, lies in the Bismarck Archipelago of Papua New Guinea, just northwest of the long island of New Ireland. It is a compact, rugged island with a mountainous, forested interior and a coastline of bays, headlands and fringing reef. Settlements sit mainly along the shore, and roads are few, so on a map the island is drawn chiefly by its outline.
Between New Hanover and New Ireland lies a scatter of small islands and reefs, strung across the passage like stepping stones. Further islets and reefs break up the water elsewhere around the coast. These smaller outlines give the composition texture and make the main island appear as the central piece of a wider cluster rather than an isolated form.
A New Hanover Island map poster suits people with family ties to New Ireland Province and those who have worked, taught or travelled in the islands. Its bold mass and the delicate islands beside it produce a balanced design in monochrome. Little is shown beyond coast, reef and a handful of tracks, and that restraint is exactly what keeps the map calm.

Island stepping stones
Small islands and reefs lie between New Hanover and New Ireland, forming a scattered line of outlines that bridges the gap between the two larger islands.
Coastal villages
Communities sit mostly along the shore, so the few mapped tracks follow the coast and trace the island's perimeter rather than crossing its centre.

Perché New Hanover Island
Una mappa che ha un significato
New Hanover is rarely seen on a wall, which is part of its appeal. For people from Lavongai and New Ireland, or anyone who has spent time in the Bismarck Archipelago, it is a personal and unusual map with a strong, recognisable form.
The title and subtitle can carry a village name, a family name or a date, and the coordinates line can be edited too. Select Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to set the tone.
