La mappa
Obruchevo Map Poster & Print
Obruchevsky District lies in Moscow's South-Western Administrative Okrug, a part of the city built up mainly in the second half of the twentieth century. It is named after Vladimir Obruchev, the geologist and explorer of Siberia and Central Asia, and several streets in the area recall scientists and researchers.
From above, the district shows a pattern typical of postwar Moscow: wide avenues forming large superblocks, with residential towers and slabs spaced among courtyards, schools and green areas. Research institutes and university buildings occupy large parcels, and the main roads connect the area with the city centre and the outer ring.
An Obruchevo map poster captures the scale and order of this planned district. In black and white, the broad avenues and the rhythm of housing blocks create a clean, geometric composition, a very different image from the curving streets of Moscow's historic centre.
