Yvette valley
The river runs east–west along the valley floor, beside the railway. It is the main axis around which the town is organised.

La mappa
Orsay Map Poster & Print
Orsay lies in Essonne, southwest of Paris, in the valley of the Yvette. The river and the RER B line run side by side along the valley floor, and the town centre sits between them with its older streets. To the south, wooded slopes climb steeply to the Saclay plateau. On a map the contrast between valley and upland is very clear.
Orsay is best known for science. A large part of the Université Paris-Saclay is here, with its faculty buildings, laboratories and green spaces spread along the valley and up onto the plateau. The campus paths, car parks and scattered buildings form a very different pattern from the dense town streets and suburban houses nearby.
An Orsay map poster shows the town and university together: the narrow river valley, the rail line, the old centre and the loose layout of the campus under the trees. Monochrome suits it, because the pattern of buildings, woods and slopes needs no colour to read clearly.

University campus
The Paris-Saclay university buildings are spread among trees and lawns. They form a loose, open pattern unlike the tighter town streets.
Wooded slope
South of the valley, a steep forested hillside rises to the Saclay plateau. On the map it separates the town from the upland research sites.
