Central plaza grid
The plaza and its surrounding blocks form an orderly core, the colonial layout still clearly legible in the straight streets of the town centre.

La mappa
Ozumba de Alzate Map Poster & Print
Ozumba de Alzate lies in the southeastern part of the State of Mexico, in the Amecameca region at the foot of the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The town follows the classic colonial plan: a central plaza with the main church, surrounded by a grid of blocks extending outward and gradually loosening into fields and scattered houses as the ground rises toward the mountains.
The town's name honours José Antonio de Alzate y Ramírez, the eighteenth-century priest, scientist and journalist who was born here and became a leading figure of the Enlightenment in New Spain. Ozumba is also known for its sixteenth-century Franciscan convent, whose early mural paintings are of real interest to historians of colonial art.
An Ozumba de Alzate map poster shows a pattern repeated across central Mexico but with its own proportions. The grid is regular at the centre and softens at the edges, where roads bend to follow the slope and rural lanes lead toward neighbouring villages. The absence of large highways keeps the composition calm and evenly weighted.

Rising edges
Toward the volcanoes, the grid begins to bend and break up, with streets adjusting to the slope and fields taking over from built-up blocks.
Village roads
Rural roads lead out from Ozumba to nearby towns, drawing thin, wandering lines across the farmland of the Amecameca region.
