Pacifica Map Poster
Pacifica lies on the San Mateo County coast just south of San Francisco, but it has none of the city's regular grid. Seen from above, it is a series of neighbourhoods tucked into valleys that open onto the ocean, each separated by steep, green ridges and rocky headlands. Highway 1 links them in a single thread running north to south along the shore.
The largest valley ends at Linda Mar, a curved beach popular with surfers, while Mori Point and the cliffs further north break the coastline into coves. Inland, Sweeney Ridge is where Spanish explorers under Gaspar de Portolá first sighted San Francisco Bay in 1769. To the south, the Devil's Slide tunnels now carry the highway past a stretch of crumbling coastal cliff.
A Pacifica map poster shows how much of the town is shaped by terrain. Streets fill the valley floors and stop abruptly where the hills begin, so the map shows clusters of houses divided by large open areas. The ocean edge is irregular, with beaches, headlands and a pier, making this a coastal map more about landforms than street pattern.
