La mappa
Paradise Map Poster & Print
Paradise sits on a long ridge in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Butte County. Butte Creek canyon lies to the west and the West Branch of the Feather River cuts deep to the east. On a map, the town is a narrow band of streets running north to south along the ridge, with the Skyway and other main roads forming its spine. Side lanes and driveways branch off into what was once dense pine forest.
In November 2018 the Camp Fire destroyed most of the town and killed 85 people, making it the deadliest wildfire in California's history. The population figure reflects the town before the fire. Since then residents have been rebuilding house by house, and the street network, laid out over more than a century, remains the framework they return to.
A Paradise map poster shows the town as its people knew it and as they are rebuilding it. The canyons form dark edges on both sides, and the ridge-top grid runs between them. For former and returning residents, the map is a way to keep the shape of home.
