La mappa
Piravam Map Poster & Print
Piravam lies in Ernakulam district, in the gently rolling country east of Kochi where the coastal lowlands begin to rise toward the midland hills. The Muvattupuzha river passes through the town, and from above its winding course is the single strongest line on the map, with roads and lanes arranged along both banks.
Beyond the river, the landscape is a patchwork of rubber plantations, coconut groves and homesteads on small rises, linked by roads that follow the higher ground and dip down to cross streams. The built-up area is loose rather than dense, and the town's shape comes from where the ground stays dry and where bridges make crossings possible.
The town is known locally for its old churches and temples, which draw people from across the district during festival seasons. A Piravam map poster leaves out the crowds and keeps the underlying structure: river, bridges, ridge roads and the open greenery between them, set out in clean black line on a quiet page.

Bridge crossings
Roads converge on the river at a few crossing points, and these become clear anchors in the composition where the street network knots together.
Ridge roads
Outside the centre, lanes follow the higher ground between plantations and valleys, creating a loose, branching pattern across the rest of the sheet.

Perché Piravam
Una mappa che ha un significato
A Piravam map is meaningful for Malayali families now living in the Gulf, Europe or elsewhere in India, and for those who still come back for festivals. The river gives it an immediately recognisable shape.
