Cape Lopez
The northern point of the island curves out into the sea and shelters the bay behind it. It is the most recognisable stretch of coastline on the map.

La mappa
Port-Gentil Map Poster & Print
Port-Gentil occupies the northern end of Mandji Island, a long, low strip of sand and mangrove at the mouth of the Ogooué delta. From above it is a city bounded by water on almost every side: Atlantic surf to the west, the calm bay to the east, and a maze of delta channels stretching inland beyond it. The streets fill the narrow land in between.
It is Gabon's second city and the centre of the country's oil industry, with terminals and a refinery shaping its waterfront. For most of its history Port-Gentil has had no direct road link to the capital, Libreville, so people and goods arrive by air or by boat. That isolation has given the city a distinct, somewhat self-contained character.
A Port-Gentil map poster puts the island setting first. The street network sits in a tight band, port structures reach into the bay, and long straight roads run south along the island. Water takes up most of the frame, and the delta's creeks appear as fine, branching lines, a pattern unlike that of any mainland city.

Bay waterfront
On the sheltered eastern side, quays and industrial installations extend into the water, marking the port and oil activity that the city depends on.
Delta channels
Beyond the bay, the Ogooué delta breaks up into branching creeks and mangrove islands, drawn on the poster as a delicate network of water and land.

Perché Port-Gentil
Una mappa che ha un significato
People who have worked in Port-Gentil, often on long oil-sector assignments, and those who grew up there know how particular this island city feels. Its outline of sand, sea and creeks makes a striking and unusual piece for the wall.
