Post Falls is a city in Kootenai County, Idaho, on the Spokane River between Coeur d'Alene to the east and Spokane, Washington, to the west. It is named after Frederick Post, who built a sawmill at the falls in the late nineteenth century. The river has defined the town ever since.
On a map, the Spokane River runs along the southern side of the city, flowing west past the dam at the falls and through channels cut into rock. Interstate 90 crosses the middle from east to west. Neighbourhoods fill the flat prairie north of the river, a mix of older grid streets and newer curving subdivisions.
