Mouth of the gulf
Préveza faces a narrow channel between the Ionian Sea and the Ambracian Gulf. The two coastlines nearly meet here, giving the map its defining shape.

La mappa
Préveza Map Poster & Print
Préveza sits at the tip of a peninsula in Epirus, in north-western Greece. Here a narrow channel links the Ionian Sea with the enclosed Ambracian Gulf. The town faces the headland of Aktio across the strait, where the Battle of Actium was fought in 31 BC. Just to the north are the extensive ruins of Nicopolis, the city Octavian founded to commemorate his victory.
On a map, water frames Préveza on almost every side. The old town is a knot of narrow streets behind the waterfront, which follows the channel in a long curve. Newer districts spread north along the peninsula. A road tunnel under the strait connects Préveza with Aktio. From above, the tunnel's approaches and the harbour give the southern end of the map a strong, engineered shape.
A Préveza map poster suits summer visitors, sailors who have passed through the strait and families from Epirus. Both coastlines are clear in monochrome, and so is the tight grain of the old town. The composition is very geographic, a town placed exactly where land nearly closes and the sea finds its way through.

Old town waterfront
Behind a long curving quay, the old town's narrow lanes form the densest part of the print, directly facing the strait.
Nicopolis to the north
North of the modern town lies the site of Nicopolis, founded after the Battle of Actium. Its open ground appears on wider framings of the map.

Perché Préveza
Una mappa che ha un significato
Préveza is often the start or end of a summer: a ferry, a sailing trip or a family home by the water. A map with both coastlines drawn clearly brings that sense of place back into an everyday room.
Add your own title, a subtitle such as a year or a boat's name, and the coordinates. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint gives the strait a nautical feel.
