Magdalena River bank
Colombia's principal river runs along the town's edge, wide and shifting, with islands and sandbars that make the waterline the most expressive feature on the map.

La mappa
Puerto Boyacá Map Poster & Print
Puerto Boyacá is Boyacá department's outlet onto the Magdalena River, a long reach west of the Andean highlands where most of the department lies. From above, the town lines up along the river's eastern bank, with its streets running back from the water in a fairly regular pattern. The Magdalena itself dominates the frame, broad and braided, with sandbars and side channels.
The surrounding Magdalena Medio region is flat, warm lowland, very different from the mountain towns of the rest of Boyacá. Petroleum has shaped the local economy for decades, and oil fields and their access roads appear in the countryside around the town. Cattle ranching is the other main land use, which keeps much of the map open and sparsely drawn.
A Puerto Boyacá map poster works best with the river given room. The town occupies one bank, the opposite shore belongs to Antioquia, and the water between them carries the eye across the whole composition. Small lagoons and wetlands scattered across the plain add soft, irregular shapes to the straighter lines of streets and roads.

Riverfront street grid
The urban area extends back from the bank in blocks of fairly even size, a practical layout for a port that grew along the water's edge.
Lowland lagoons
Across the flat Magdalena Medio plain, ponds and marshy lagoons appear as scattered organic shapes, softening the space between roads and oil-field tracks.

Perché Puerto Boyacá
Una mappa che ha un significato
People connected to Puerto Boyacá, through work in the oil sector, family, or the river itself, often remember it as a place of heat, water and open horizon. A map condenses that into lines, a restrained way to keep it close.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, then pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Order as a digital file for $9 or as a printed poster on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame, from partners in over 30 countries.
