Valley road
The principal road follows the valley floor, giving the map a clear spine from which the smaller lanes and village tracks branch outward toward the surrounding slopes.

La mappa
Qianhu Map Poster & Print
Qianhu lies in the southeast of Gansu province, in a part of northwest China shaped by loess, the fine wind-blown soil that covers much of the region. From above, this kind of landscape is unmistakable: hills carved by countless small gullies, slopes stepped into farm terraces, and settlements drawn down into the flatter ground of the valleys.
The town's own streets are relatively few and follow the lie of the land rather than a strict grid. Main roads run along the valley, with lanes branching up toward villages and fields on the hillsides. The result on paper is a pattern of fine, branching lines, more like the veins of a leaf than a planned city block.
A Qianhu map poster is a quiet, intimate piece rather than a famous skyline. It records a place that is home to its residents and familiar to those who have left it for larger cities, where the shape of valley and hill says more about everyday life than any single landmark could.

Loess hills
The surrounding loess country is cut by gullies and shaped by farming, and the roads that thread through it produce an irregular, organic pattern across the edges of the poster.
Compact centre
The built-up heart of the town is small and dense, a tight cluster of streets that reads as a single focal point against the open rural ground around it.

Perché Qianhu
Una mappa che ha un significato
Maps of small towns are often the most personal ones. For someone who grew up in Qianhu or still has family there, seeing its valley roads and hillside lanes framed on the wall is a reminder of home that no photograph of a big city can replace.
Add your own title and subtitle, for example a family name or a year, and adjust the coordinates line. Pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Digital HD files are $9, with printed posters available on matte paper.
