Renigunta lies in southern Andhra Pradesh, a few kilometres east of Tirupati, at the foot of the ridges that surround the temple town. From above it is shaped by transport: railway lines converge here, main roads fan out in several directions, and the town's streets fill the space between them.
Renigunta is an important railway junction on routes connecting Chennai, Mumbai and the interior of the south, and Tirupati's airport sits just outside the town. The long, straight runway is one of the clearest shapes on the map, a single sharp line beside the irregular pattern of the streets.
Many pilgrims travelling to Tirumala pass through Renigunta, arriving by rail or air before continuing into the hills. A Renigunta map poster shows the town as a gateway: tracks and roads meeting in a small area, with the rising ground of the Seshachalam hills visible toward the edge.
