Planned street grid
The residential district is laid out in regular blocks and straight streets, a clear example of mid-century planning for a factory town.

La mappa
Roshal’ Map Poster & Print
Roshal’ lies in the far east of Moscow Oblast, in the Meshchera lowland, a region of forests, marshes and peat workings. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets set within a wide expanse of woodland, with water bodies and bog margins breaking up the surrounding land.
The town grew in the twentieth century around a chemical plant and was named after Semyon Roshal, a revolutionary figure. Its layout reflects that origin, with an industrial zone on one side and planned residential blocks, typical of Soviet factory settlements, on the other.
A Roshal’ map poster captures the contrast between the town's orderly plan and the irregular natural landscape around it. Straight streets and rectangular blocks stand against the soft shapes of lakes and forest edges, producing a clean, balanced composition.

Industrial zone
Large rectangular plots and access roads mark the area of the plant, visibly different in scale from the housing blocks nearby.
Meshchera landscape
Forest, wetlands and small lakes surround the town, appearing on the map as open space and irregular shorelines rather than streets.
