Tracks across the hills
Unpaved roads and paths wind along the rolling terrain and link the various parts of the settlement. Their curving lines form the main structure of the map.

La mappa
Rwamwanja Refugee Camp Map Poster & Print
Rwamwanja is a refugee settlement in Kamwenge District, in western Uganda. It does not look like a city on a map. It is a wide rural area of hills and valleys, crossed by unpaved tracks, with homes and farm plots spread over the land and a few denser points where services, markets and schools gather.
The settlement was reopened in 2012 to receive people who had fled conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. As is common in Uganda's settlement model, households were allocated plots of land to live on and farm, which is why the map shows a spread-out pattern rather than tightly packed shelters.
A Rwamwanja Refugee Camp map poster gives that landscape a quiet, dignified form. The network of tracks follows the contours of the hills, the small centres appear as knots of denser lines, and the farmland between them fills the frame. For those who have lived here, it records a real place and a real period of life.

Plots and farmland
Households live and farm on allocated plots, so homes are spread across the landscape. On the poster this reads as a loose, even texture rather than a dense core.
Small service centres
Markets, schools and health facilities cluster at a few points. They appear as denser knots of lines where several tracks come together.
