La mappa
Rzhev Map Poster & Print
Rzhev lies on the upper Volga in Russia's Tver Oblast, and the river divides the town into two parts. From above, the Volga is the dominant line, winding through the centre with bridges linking the banks. Streets on both sides run down toward the water, and the older blocks sit close to the embankments while newer districts spread outward.
The town is best known for the Battles of Rzhev of 1942 and 1943, among the longest and costliest of the Second World War on the Eastern Front. In 2020, the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier was opened nearby, a large monument dedicated to those who fought in the area.
A Rzhev map poster focuses on the relationship between the town and its river. The curving Volga, the bridges crossing it and the street networks meeting on either side make a composition with a clear centre and a strong sense of place, suited to anyone with family ties to the town.

River crossings
Bridges connect the two banks, and the main streets on each side lead toward them, making the crossings the natural focal points of the street network.
Riverside quarters
The older parts of Rzhev sit close to the water, with blocks running down to the embankments before the town opens out into newer neighbourhoods.
