Lagoon and reef
A coral reef runs off the shore, sheltering a shallow lagoon along part of the coast; on the map the shoreline becomes a smooth edge against the open ocean.

La mappa
Saint-Leu Map Poster & Print
Saint-Leu lies on the dry western coast of Réunion. On a map the town forms a narrow strip between the Indian Ocean and the lower slopes of the island's volcanic massif. A coastal road follows the shoreline, and above it winding roads and scattered neighbourhoods climb the hillside in switchbacks, reaching villages in the higher parts of the commune known locally as the Hauts.
The coastline here is protected by a coral reef that creates a shallow lagoon, and the area is known for surfing and for paragliding from the slopes above town. Saint-Leu is also home to Kélonia, an observatory and care centre dedicated to sea turtles, and to the Stella Matutina museum, housed in a former sugar factory that tells the story of the island's sugar industry.
A Saint-Leu map poster pairs the clean line of the coast with the fine tracery of roads rising inland. The result is a composition with a strong sense of slope, where the ocean on one side contrasts with the intricate patterns of the hillside above.

Switchback hill roads
Roads leave the coast and climb the volcanic slopes in tight bends, creating looping lines that are the most intricate part of the poster.
Coastal town strip
The main town occupies a narrow band between sea and hillside, its streets pressed against the shoreline and the coastal road running through its length.

Perché Saint-Leu
Una mappa che ha un significato
Saint-Leu is a map for people who have surfed its reef, flown above its slopes or grown up on Réunion's west coast. The mix of ocean and mountain roads gives it an unusual, dynamic outline on the wall.
