Harbour breakwaters
Long arms of stone extend into the Gulf of Tehuantepec and enclose the port basins, giving this part of the coastline a hard, geometric profile that stands out immediately on the map.

La mappa
Salina Cruz Map Poster & Print
Salina Cruz sits on the Pacific shore of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the narrowest stretch of land in southern Mexico. From above, the town reads as a dense grid of blocks pressed between low hills and the sea, with the harbour cut into its southern edge. Long breakwaters reach into the Gulf of Tehuantepec and enclose basins that give the coastline a sharp, engineered outline.
The port has long been the Pacific end of a rail link across the isthmus to the Gulf of Mexico, a route that made the town a transfer point between two oceans. Industry shapes much of the plan. A large oil refinery and its storage terminals spread over the land beside the port, and their geometric tanks and yards contrast with the finer mesh of residential streets.
A Salina Cruz map poster captures that meeting of working waterfront and ordinary neighbourhood. The shoreline runs away east and west in long, open beaches, while roads leave town toward the interior of Oaxaca. In black and white the harbour walls and the grid become the main characters, a clear drawing of a place defined by its position between sea and continent.

Refinery and terminals
Beside the port, the oil refinery and tank farms form a distinct zone of circles and rectangles, a pattern that sets it clearly apart from the smaller residential blocks around it.
The isthmus route
Rail and road lines lead north out of town across the isthmus and trace the corridor that links this Pacific harbour with the Gulf of Mexico coast.
