Paddy field grid
Regular rectangular fields fill much of the district. The precise pattern of lines looks like a woven texture when printed at large sizes.

La mappa
Shōbu Map Poster & Print
Shōbu lies in the northeast of Saitama Prefecture, on the broad Kantō Plain north of Tokyo. It was an independent town until 2010, when it merged with neighbouring municipalities to form the present city of Kuki, but the name remains in local use. From above, the landscape is almost perfectly flat, so fields and water shape the map, not hills.
Rice paddies divided into neat rectangles surround the residential areas. Irrigation and drainage channels cross them and feed the rivers of the plain. Housing tends to cluster along older roads and in newer developments, so the map alternates between dense patches of small streets and wide stretches of agricultural pattern. The rhythm is calm and regular.
A Shōbu map poster makes that rural geometry visible: the fine grid of fields, the curving lines of channels and rivers, and the residential clusters between them. This is the quiet side of the greater Tokyo region, where many commuters make their homes, and in black and white its patterns look almost like woven fabric.

Channels and rivers
Irrigation channels and small rivers wind through the plain, and their curves break the regularity of the fields and tie the landscape together.
Residential clusters
Houses gather in compact neighbourhoods along older roads, separated by farmland, so the built-up areas read as distinct islands on the map.

Perché Shōbu
Una mappa che ha un significato
For people who grew up in Shōbu before the merger, the old name carries a particular identity. A map preserves that sense of place, and it suits commuters who value the quiet of the plain as much as the city to the south.
Title the poster Shōbu, Kuki or anything meaningful to you, add a subtitle with a year, and edit the coordinates line. Five styles are available (Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand), as $9 digital files or printed posters.
