Nearby, the Tinkisso River joins the Niger, and from above the two broad waterways, with their sandbanks and seasonal floodplains, shape the whole region. The town sits on ground beside the river, with its streets spreading inland across the savanna.
The Siguiri area has been known for gold for centuries, and it remains one of the most important mining zones in Guinea, with both large industrial operations and extensive artisanal digging. That activity is visible on the map as tracks and cleared ground spreading across the surrounding land. The town's own streets form a loose grid around its main roads.
