Compact town grid
The centre is a small block of streets laid out close together, so on the poster it reads as a dense cluster set against wide, open ground.

La mappa
Silva Jardim Map Poster & Print
Silva Jardim sits in the interior of Rio de Janeiro state, in the lowlands of the São João river basin. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets with a railway line and a highway passing nearby. Farmland opens around it, and patches of forest cover the surrounding hills. Much of the map around the settlement is empty of roads, and that emptiness is part of what the image shows.
The municipality is best known for the Poço das Antas Biological Reserve, one of the main refuges of the golden lion tamarin, a small orange primate found only in the Atlantic Forest of this part of Brazil. Conservation work around the reserve has made the name Silva Jardim familiar to biologists far beyond the state, even though the town itself stays quiet.
A Silva Jardim map poster shows how a working town and a protected landscape meet. The dense centre and its few radiating roads contrast with the looser lines of rivers and the unbroken ground of the reserve. In black and white the difference between built land and open land is very clear. The result is a map of a place defined as much by what surrounds it as by its own streets.

São João basin
Rivers and streams of the São João basin wind through the low ground around the town, adding soft, irregular lines to the otherwise sparse map.
Protected forest
The Poço das Antas reserve leaves a large area almost free of roads, a quiet expanse that frames the town and says something about the region.
