Valley floor
The town spreads along the level ground of the valley, so its outline on the poster is long and narrow rather than round, shaped by the hills on both sides.

La mappa
Solok Map Poster & Print
Solok sits in a broad valley of the Barisan Mountains, the range that runs down the length of Sumatra. On the map, the town stretches along its main roads while the surrounding land breaks into irregular paddy plots. The hills close in on either side, so the street pattern follows the flat ground and thins out wherever the slopes begin to rise.
The region is Minangkabau country, and Solok is widely known in Indonesia for its rice, sold under the name of the town. Lake Singkarak, one of the largest lakes in West Sumatra, lies a short distance away. The road and rail routes that cross the highlands pass near the town, linking it to Padang on the coast and to Bukittinggi further north.
A Solok map poster captures that setting in line work: the valley floor filled with streets and field edges, the river curving through, and the open space where the mountains take over. It is a map about terrain as much as about town planning, and the contrast between dense and empty areas gives the print its shape.

Paddy field mosaic
Irregular plots of rice fields surround the built-up area, creating a loose, hand-drawn texture that contrasts with the straighter roads through the centre.
Highland roads
Main routes enter the valley and bend to follow the contours, giving the composition a few strong curving lines that lead the eye across the print.

Perché Solok
Una mappa che ha un significato
Solok is the kind of place people carry with them, whether they left for Padang, Jakarta or further. A map of the valley keeps the sense of the town surrounded by fields and mountains, a picture of where someone comes from.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed, so the print can carry a family name, a wedding date or a short note. Five styles are available, from Classic black & white to warmer Sand and Paper.
