Compact town grid
A short, regular grid of streets around a central square forms the town. On a print it sits like a small, dense island within the open sertão around it.

La mappa
Solonópole Map Poster & Print
Solonópole is a municipality in the interior of Ceará, in Brazil's semi-arid sertão. Seen from above the town is compact, with a small grid of streets around a central square and church. Rural roads then run out across dry country, where fences and tracks mark out properties and small settlements.
Water is the main theme of any map of this region. Across the sertão, communities have built açudes, dammed reservoirs that hold the rainy-season runoff through the long dry months. Their shapes are irregular and branching, following the valleys they flood, and they are some of the most striking forms on a map of interior Ceará.
A Solonópole map poster brings out how carefully people have settled a demanding landscape. The town's tight streets sit against wide, sparse surroundings, and the reservoirs add organic shapes to an otherwise open field. In black and white it looks spare and graphic, which fits the place well.

Açude shapes
Reservoirs built to store seasonal rain spread along valleys in branching, finger-like forms. They are the most expressive shapes on the map and a signature of the region.
Sertão tracks
Unpaved roads and paths radiate across dry country to farms and villages. They draw faint, meandering lines that fill the outer part of the poster with quiet detail.

Perché Solonópole
Una mappa che ha un significato
Many families from interior Ceará now live in Fortaleza, São Paulo or elsewhere, and a map of Solonópole is a simple way to keep the town present. It is personal without being sentimental, a plan of where things started.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps a family name or the year someone left home. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits the dry landscape especially well.
