La mappa
Srīvardhan Map Poster & Print
Srīvardhan is a coastal town in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, on the Konkan coast south of Mumbai. On a map it is set by the Arabian Sea: a long, gently curving beach on the west, then a narrow band of houses and lanes, then a thick belt of palm groves. Low green hills rise behind, typical of this stretch of coastline.
The town is known for its areca nut, sold as Shrivardhani supari, and much of the land around the streets is taken up by shaded plantations of areca and coconut. Srīvardhan also has a place in Maratha history as the ancestral home of Balaji Vishwanath, the first of the Peshwa line. The temple town of Harihareshwar lies a short way down the coast.
A Srīvardhan map poster places the sea against the town's small, irregular lanes. The long beach line, the groves and the roads winding inland give it a calm, balanced composition. It suits anyone who has spent monsoon holidays on the Konkan coast, or whose family history leads back to this quiet stretch of shoreline.

Palm groves
Areca and coconut plantations surround the town and reach close to the shore. They show as a band of open, lightly marked ground between the houses and the hills.
Coastal lanes
The older streets are narrow and follow the land rather than a grid. They form a close, organic pattern that contrasts with the clean line of the coast.
