La mappa

Takasaki Map Poster & Print

Takasaki sits at the northwestern edge of the Kantō plain in Gunma Prefecture, where the flat land begins to rise toward the mountains. From above, the city is a dense mesh of streets around its main station, with the Karasu River running along the western side and wooded hills lifting beyond it.

The city is an important rail junction: this is where the Jōetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen lines divide, one heading toward Niigata and the other toward Nagano and the Sea of Japan coast. Takasaki is also known across Japan for its daruma dolls, and for the large white Byakue Kannon statue standing on Kannon-yama above the city.

A Takasaki map poster shows how rail and river organise the place. Tracks sweep in and fan out from the station, the river draws a soft curve past the centre, and the regular city blocks grow more open toward the hills.

01

Shinkansen junction

Several rail lines converge on Takasaki Station and then divide, including the two Shinkansen routes. On the map, these long curving tracks form some of the strongest lines in the composition.

02

Karasu River

The Karasu River runs along the western side of the centre, a wide pale band with bridges crossing it, separating the dense city from the rising ground beyond.

03

Kannon-yama hills

West of the river, the Kannon-yama hills bring winding roads and green space, a looser texture that contrasts with the tight urban grid below.
