La mappa
Terrazas del Valle Map Poster & Print
Terrazas del Valle is a large residential area on the eastern side of Tijuana, in Baja California. Unlike the old centre of the city, it was built quickly as a planned housing development. From above, it is a dense pattern of long, narrow blocks of small houses, arranged in repeated rows and loops that follow the shape of the hills.
The terrain here is dry and uneven, with ridges and ravines running between the neighbourhoods. On a map, the residential streets often stop at the edge of a slope, leaving empty areas where the ground is too steep to build. Main roads connect the development to the rest of Tijuana and to the routes leading east.
A Terrazas del Valle map poster shows the particular geometry of this kind of neighbourhood. The repeated rows of housing create a strong, almost textile-like texture, broken by the curves of the hills and the lines of the main roads. It is a surprisingly graphic subject for a monochrome print.

Hill contours
Streets bend to follow the ridges and slopes, and the blocks change direction where the terrain changes, giving the map an organic edge.
Ravines and gaps
Steep ravines leave unbuilt spaces between neighbourhoods, forming irregular open areas that break up the regular pattern of houses.
