La mappa
Texarkana Map Poster & Print
Texarkana, Texas, is one half of a twin city: the other half, Texarkana, Arkansas, lies directly to the east, and the border between the two states runs right through the shared urban area. The name itself combines Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana, which lies a short distance to the south.
On the map the state line follows State Line Avenue, a long straight road running north to south through the combined city. The federal building and post office downtown is famously built across the line, so it stands in both states at once. Railways converge on the city from several directions, reflecting its origins as a rail junction.
A Texarkana map poster shows the two cities as one continuous street network, split only by that single avenue. In black and white it becomes clear how the grid runs uninterrupted across the border, while the rail lines and highways add longer, sweeping shapes to the composition.

Building on the border
The downtown federal building and post office stands across the state line, one of the few such buildings in the country located in two states at once.
Railroad junction
Texarkana grew as a railway junction, and several lines still converge on the city, drawn as long diagonals that cut across the regular grid of the streets.
